Happy Halloween More great news to share this month: for the second year running and our third win we have won Best Eastside Neighborhood – Eastside Community Network – EEV was presented with the award at the annual ECN Gala held at the Rooster Tail this month.– many thanks to all of our neighbors and eastside friends that make EEV a special place every day! Please remember again this year – Halloween in EEV and as a city will be focused on Family events again this year for the former time period of Angels night – we ask for everyone to come to the October general meeting with a bag of candy to donate to the 5th precinct for the trick or treaters event on October 31st – details will be at the general meeting on October 9th. This event was a huge success last year and it will be bigger this year. Thanks to DPD #5 for hosting. The November Newsletter will have information from our Special Events team regarding our annual Holiday Party – the event will be a sunday evening in December – a very fun potluck event with Santa helping out – stay tuned… Presidents Message continued on page 6 and Fall greetings, friends! September was an ever-changing weather forecast – on the day of the September General meeting we made the call to cancel the evening meeting around 4:15 due to severe weather related warnings along with having the meeting in the Sweeney Center which has no elevator, we felt it best to combine the September and October meetings. The cancelation was posted on FB, Next Door and the St Clare buildings. We were able to move all the speakers to this week. We will have Vicky Kovari who is heading up the 2020 City of Detroit Census, along with speakers from DTE, DWSD and a full recap of the wonderful news event about the Warren/Cadieux Corridor with Blue Cross Blue Shield.

It’s that time of season again where as residents we rush to finish summer and fall projects before the leaves fall and winter of 2019 sets in. Please help fund our volunteer snow removal program – our snow fund dollars always help with clearing the streets in EEV – Snow fund dollars are voluntary and roll over from the previous year if not used – as we have done for over 30 plus years we collect and use them when really needed, and with the help of the city plows from time to time we can have safer and clearer streets. Our fund currently totals approx. $ 6,000. We are waiting on City of Detroit plans to finalize the 2019/2020 season. Remember to decorate for the annual Halloween Home Decorating contest. Judging will take place on the evening of October 28th. Prizes will be awarded that evening. Contact Kathy Roddie at residential@ eastenglishvillage.org if you’d like to help out. Please remind your neighbors to help keep up the Village streets and drains during the fall season with clearing leaves – it all makes a difference by paying attention to our landscape pick up schedule. Thanks to all the voluntary EEVA board members and to so many residents that work so hard all the time on projects etc.to promote and move the Village forward– we all have so many things on our plates these days but it makes a positive impact where you call home! Our annual Village elections will be held in November – please see the nomination form in the newsletter. We continue to have an outstanding neighborhood with incredible people – it’s our time to shine!

Happy Halloween and Best regards, William Barlage President
